GRIFFIN SCHOOL DISTRICT
STEP I
4:00 a.m. Superintendent Don Brannam or designee, and Transportation Supervisor Karen Lett or designee, will drive through areas within district boundaries, (Gravelly Beach Rd., Steamboat Island Rd., Oyster Bay Rd., Highway 8, Highway 101, etc.)
STEP II
5:30 a.m. Don Brannam will contact the Weather Service for updated reports at 943-4310. The Transportation Supervisor and the Superintendent or designee will confer regarding the weather forecast, road conditions, and recommendations for school closure or late start.
STEP III
5:45 a.m. The Superintendent or designee will confer with Bill Lahmann at the Olympia School District regarding their plans. The Olympia School District Transportation Department will also be contacted. Dr. Brannam will also contact Griffin’s Child Nutrition Services Supervisor, Zina Losey and the District’s Maintenance Supervisor Randy Martin.
STEP IV
5:50 a.m. The Superintendent or designee will notify the following stations and other media centers of the district’s plans. Stations include the following:

Dr. Brannam will also contact Flashnews.net. Flashnews.net allows member school districts, the news media and the public to get timely and accurate emergency related information through local radio and television broadcasts and the internet. For current information on inclement weather and/or other emergency related information, community members should go to www.flashalert.net and click on the “view news from participating organizations” link. Then click on the Puget Sound Region and then the Thurston County Schools link and choose Griffin. Direct email and/or cell phone messages can be sent directly to parents if they choose.
Dr. Brannam will contact the District’s Technology Coordinator Pat Passmore to have inclement weather information posted on the District’s Website at www.griffin.k12.wa.us.
STEP V
6:00 a.m. Karen Lett and Randy Martin will record a message on Griffin’s main line (866-2515) and on Transportation’s main line (866-4544) outlining the district’s course of action. Contact will be made with the following staff members in the event of school closure: Diane Waiste, Doug Anderson, Randy Martin, Nancy Roberts, Zina Losey to start the district’s phone tree and staff calling process
STEP VI
7:00 a.m. Call Capital High School, notify of late arrival, 596-8000.
